Dhangadhi: An agreement has been signed between Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City and the Kailali District Football Association to implement the ‘Grassroots Football’ program in four community schools within the sub-metropolitan area.

The program will be conducted at Behdababa Secondary School (Ward-16), Dakshinkali Bahira Residential School (Ward-11), National Secondary School (Ward-15, Urmi), and Patela Sports Ground (Ward-7). The initiative is being undertaken in accordance with the Constitution of Nepal and Section 10 of the Sports Education Development Act, 2079 BS.

Under the agreement, Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City will be responsible for constructing football fields and providing technical and financial support, while the Football Association will manage sports equipment, players, and coaches. The expenses for the program will be covered through private funding sources. Additionally, the Football Association will oversee training and sports practice sessions.

Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City has emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader effort to develop young football players through school-level training programs. Following the successful launch of the ‘Grassroots Cricket’ program last year, the sub-metropolitan city has now initiated the ‘Grassroots Football’ program for the current fiscal year.

Keshav Khatri, Technical Assistant at the Youth and Sports Branch, stated that football programs will not be introduced in wards where other sports programs, including cricket and badminton, are already in progress. However, there are plans to expand the initiative in the future.
