CM schedules a meeting to garner the vote of confidence
Dhangadhi: The newly appointed Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, Dirgha Bahadur Sodari, is taking the vote of confidence tomorrow (Thursday).
CPN-UML, Maoist Center, two MPs of Nagarik Unmukti and one independent MP who supported the Chief Minister will cast a vote of confidence. Resham Lal Chaudhary, will not cast a vote of confidence to Chief Minister Sodari. Until now, the state assembly meeting has been adjourned twice as the UML was not ready to give a vote of confidence.
Although the state assembly meeting was called on 21st and 22nd of Baisakh, the UML was not ready, the meeting was called for the third time on 3rd June to take the vote of confidence. UML parliamentary party leader Rajendrasinh Rawal said that the vote of confidence will be casted on that day.
Today's meeting of the UML parliamentary party has decided to cast a vote of confidence to Chief Minister Sodari. Sodari, the leader of the CPN United Socialists, was appointed as the Chief Minister on 6th Baisakh with the support of UML, Maoists, CPN United Socialists, Ranjita Party's Nagarik Unmukti Party and an independent MP.
There is a constitutional provision that the CM should garner the vote of confidence within a month. Sodari is expected to garner the vote of confidence a day earlier. Soon after Sodari receives the vote of confidence, the government will expand.
So far, along with Sodari, Kailash Chaudhary of Nagarik Unmukti has been appointed as Minister of Physical Infrastructure Development and Tika Thapa of Nagarik Unmukti as Minister of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives. Maoists and UML are out of the government.
Far West has 53 MPs. Sodari needs 27 votes for a majority. There are 11 MPs from UML, 11 from Maoists including the Speaker, 4 from United Socialist Party, 7 from Nagarik Unmukti and one independent MP. There is an internal conflict ongoing in the Nagarik Unmukti party. MPs from Resham’s side are in opposition to the government while 2 MPs from Ranjita’s side are participating in the government.
