Dhangadhi: A thought-provoking dialogue program recently unfolded in Dhangadhi, focusing on the diary penned and curated by journalist and writer Manrishi Dhital.

In the discourse, Dhital delved into his seven diaries chronicling his firsthand experiences during the People's War, engaging writers, readers, journalists, intellectuals, and other stakeholders in insightful discussions. As a journalist deeply entrenched in the midst of the People's War, Dhital elucidated on the myriad emotions, events, socio-political fluctuations, and circumstances that he witnessed and documented throughout the conflict.

Dhital's literary repertoire includes titles such as Jail Yatra, Beniyatra, Aadhaar Yatra, Highway Yatra Piliyatra, and Gandakayatra. Additionally, he published correspondence from the time through Gufa Press, encompassing exchanges that provide further context to the era. Through his latest work, Dhital endeavors to offer a candid portrayal of the People's War era and its stark realities.

Reflecting on the book during the program, journalist Tula Adhikari praised the readability of the wartime narratives, emphasizing the poignant depiction of a journalist's struggles and the harsh realities of prison life. Meanwhile, the book's editor, Rajkumar Kunwar, highlighted its portrayal of the political and press freedom movements amid the People's War crisis.

Constituent Assembly member Hari Sripaili expressed optimism regarding the diary's significance as a reference for future generations, scholars, and researchers studying the Maoist People's War. He posed a critical question regarding the post-war roles of historical figures in serving the people, now that they hold positions of power.
