Teachers Threaten School Closure Unless Demands are Met
Baitadi: In Baitadi, teachers have initiated a protest, demanding an increase in their salaries.
The Nepal Teachers Union Baitadi has expressed solidarity with the school employees who are demonstrating for a salary hike. Narayanadatta Joshi, Secretary of Nepal Teachers' Association in Baitadi, affirmed their support for the teachers who have been protesting since May 21st.
While the government had previously indicated salary increases for school employees in the policy and program of the upcoming fiscal year, the budget did not address this issue, prompting nationwide protests by school employees. In Baitadi, school staff members are staging their protest at the office of the Education Development and Coordination Unit. The teachers have issued a warning, stating that if their demands are not met, they will proceed with closing schools and going on strike.
The teachers' union has urged the government to address the justifiable demands of school employees. The Nepal Teachers Association Baitadi has released a statement, emphatically demanding immediate attention to the demands put forth by the school staff.
