Disturbing reports reveal that the youth of the Far West region are increasingly falling victim to the clutches of drug addiction. The districts of Kailali and Kanchanpur are particularly witnessing a surge in drug-related incidents among the youth, encompassing consumption, distribution, and trafficking. Over the past few months, law enforcement agencies have apprehended several young individuals involved in illegal activities across Kailali and Kanchanpur.
In response to the escalating drug problem, the police recently launched an intensive anti-narcotics campaign to dismantle drug networks operating within the province. As a result, arrests of individuals involved in illicit drug activities have been on the rise. Just last night, four young individuals were apprehended from rehabilitation centers in Dhangadhi and Kanchanpur, both located in Kailali district.
In a successful operation, the police arrested two individuals with approximately 2 grams and 40 milligrams of drugs on Monday evening. The detainees were identified as 37-year-old Jiaram Rana and 24-year-old Ganesh Rana from Rajpur village in Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city-13. Acting on specific intelligence, a dedicated police team from Kailaligaon police station conducted a search at Jiaram Rana's residence, resulting in the seizure of 43 packets of drugs. Additionally, the police impounded the motorcycle, bearing registration number 2 P 1188, that the suspects had been using.
Furthermore, in Punarwas Municipality-11, Dokebazar, Kanchanpur, two individuals were apprehended with drugs. The suspects, including 24-year-old Bhim Bahadur Sijali from Gauriganga Municipality-2 in Kailali, were arrested on Monday night in possession of approximately 460 milligrams of illicit substances. The arrests were made by a police team deployed from Parasan police station, which intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number 01-008 P 3903 traveling from India to Nepal in Sudurpaschim Pradesh.
These recent arrests underscore the urgent need to address the escalating drug crisis, particularly among the youth population. Law enforcement agencies are intensifying their efforts to curb drug-related activities and protect the well-being of the community.
