Dhangadhi: A proposition to alter the name of the Far Western Province has emerged, generating discussions within the provincial assembly.

Lakshman Kishore Chaudhary, a member of the Provincial Assembly, has advocated for renaming the Sudurpaschim province to the Khaptad-Tharu Province. During the provincial assembly meeting, Chaudhary expressed his concerns, stating that the current name "Far Western Province" conveys a sense of lagging behind and a perception of being distant. He emphasized the importance of changing the province's name to one that aligns with its unique identity and heritage. Proposing "Khaptad-Tharu Pradesh" as the preferred name, he underscored the need to reflect the region's autonomy.

The proposal has sparked deliberations on the topic, with stakeholders considering the potential implications and resonance of a name change. The region's distinct cultural and historical significance, especially tied to Khaptad and Tharu communities, is a key factor in the call for a more representative designation.

As discussions progress, it remains to be seen how this proposal will be received and whether it will garner broader support within the province and beyond.
