Kailali in the swamp of 'drugs', 726 arrested in 410 cases less than three years
Dhangadhi: In less than three years, 726 people involved in drug addiction have been arrested in Kailali.
In the district, 726 people have been arrested and charged with 410 cases of drug addiction. From the financial year 2077/78 BS to the end of February of the current financial year 2079/80 BS, a large number of drug addicts were arrested and prosecuted in the records of District Police Office Kailali. Most arrests have been made in 8 months of the current financial year.
In the financial year 2077/78 BS, 83 men including 6 women out of 132 were arrested in 91 drug-related cases. 20 people were arrested for nitravet, 11 for hashish, 10 for spasmomen, 4/4 for marijuana and others. Similarly, in the financial year 2078/79 BS, 297 men and 18 women were arrested out of 315 in 201 drug-related cases.
This year, 44 kilos of hashish, 469 grams of drugs, 3,555 tablets of nitravet, 1,215 capsules of spasmomen, and 80 capsules of nitrazepam have been seized by the police from various places in the district. As of mid-February, 279 people have been arrested for being involved in drug addiction.
190 drug-related cases have been registered against them. Most 43 kg of hashish, 480 grams of drugs, 587 tablets of nitravet, 1,200 capsules of nitrazepam, 128 grams of marijuana were seized. In the financial year 2077/78 BS, an average of 11 people were arrested per month, but in the financial year 2078/79 BS, 26 people were arrested per month.
But in the current financial year, compared to both years, 9 people have been arrested, i.e. 35 people per month. Adolescent/adolescent drug use is more common among young people. It is seen that many young people of Kailali are getting trapped in the swamp of 'drugs'. According to the police, drug addiction is on the rise due to the open border with India.
