Is the Kailali-Kanchanpur administration prepared for unforeseen disasters?
Dhangadhi: Due to the rainfall for the last two days, several places in Kailali and Kanchanpur have experienced flooding. Dhangadhi and Mahendranagar market areas were also flooded. In such a situation, there is no coordination between the three levels of government to work in a planned manner, apart from giving orders to each other.
The southeast-north region of Kailali has been getting flooded during monsoons. Floods in the main rivers Mohana, Kandhra and Karnali have been inundating the northeastern region of the district.
For that purpose, the District Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan (DPRP) has been created and implemented, according to the Kailali administration. Assistant Chief District Officer and Spokesperson Yagya Raj Joshi said that since Kailali is more at risk from the point of view of floods, they are working on creating a procedure for the monsoon preparedness response plan for the disaster.
"Gauge readers have been kept ready to measure the danger level of the river at 16 different places in the district to exercise vigilance based on last year's study and the nature of the current financial year's disaster," he said. It is claimed that disaster management preparations have been made in the flooded areas of Kailali. The operational team of the Nepal Army, Armed Police and Nepal Police have been kept ready for the rescue operation. Landslide risk areas have been identified in Chure and Mohanyal Rural Municipality of the district and more flood-prone areas have been identified in Terai's Bhajani, Kailari, Tikapur, etc. Along with Kailali, gauge meters have been installed to measure the flow of water in the main rivers of Kanchanpur.
Gauge meters have also been installed at Dattu in Darchula, and Parashuram in Dadeldhura to protect the coastal areas along the Mahakali river from floods. It has been informed to the residents of the coastal area to be alert after the river flow increases.
