Government of Sudurpaschim provides relief funds to farmers affected by pluvial floods last year

Dhangadhi: The Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Government of Sudurpaschim Province has provided relief funds to the families of farmers who were affected by last year's floods. Many areas in the hilly regions of Sudurpaschim incurred heavy losses after the unexpected rainfall during the month of Asoj and Kartik due to climate change. The pluvial floods washed away crops in seven local levels of Dadeldhura.

At a meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee held at the District Administration Office, Dadeldhura on Wednesday, it was stated that relief would be distributed to the victims on the basis of the details collected by the Krishi Gyan Kendra and, Veterinary Hospital and, Veterinary Center.

Chief District Officer and District Disaster Management Committee Coordinator Mohan Raj Joshi said that relief would be provided according to the damage to crops and livestock besides paddy. Chief District Officer Joshi said that out of the Rs 7.5 million received for the relief of paddy damage, Rs 7.2 million has already been distributed to the victims.

He said that the relief amount has been distributed after checking the details provided of the damage incurred by the victim. The victims who have a bank account have received the relief amount in their bank accounts in coordination with the bank. However, the victims without a bank account have been provided the money at their doorsteps by their municipality.

According to Agriculture Development Officer Chandradev Bhatt, 666 people had reported damages caused to their food crops at the Krishi Gyan Kendra.  According to the Krishi Gyan Kendra, a total of 39 lakh 16 thousand three hundred rupees worth of damage was reported by the locals of Dadeldhura. Similarly, the details of the damage caused to the livestock reported by 50 locals is equivalent to Rs 361,000, said the Animal Development Officer Devraj Bhatta.
