Farmers of Kailali are happy after it started raining

२०७९ असार १३, ०६:३८

Kailali: Ramphal Chaudhary of Janaki Rural Municipality-4 of Kailali is very happy at this time. Farmers are happy that they have not been able to plant not only ram fruits but also paddy after the rains started after a long time. Farmers have been busy in their fields since the onset of monsoon on Saturday.

Farmers, who are scared to plant their fields after no rain for a long time, are now busy planting. "Due to lack of water, it was very difficult for the farmers to save their paddy seeds. There was no relief in irrigation due to boring water due to hot weather. Now there is hope that farming can be done. Farmers are busy in the field. If it rains continuously, it will be easier to plant paddy." He said.

Dinesh Bishwakarma of Tikapur, who planted paddy at this time last year, has not started planting paddy this year. After the onset of monsoon from May last year, he has been busy in field work since May. "Planting could not be done in time due to lack of rain. Now it is raining, now the planting is done. Due to lack of irrigation facilities everywhere, farming should be done on the basis of rain water. It has become very difficult to find workers as it starts with everyone's work." He said.

It has been a month since Hari Chaudhary of Tikapur-4 left the field. Paddy seeds have been harvested for more than a month, but Chaudhary has not been able to plant paddy due to lack of rain. He was preparing to plant the field with the water of the borehole. "Like last year, paddy seeds were sown so that they could be sown as soon as possible. It was delayed for about a month due to lack of water. The target is to plant the field in a week if workers are found. If no worker is found, it will take more than two weeks." He said.

Sowing of paddy had started in Kailali last year before the planting season due to the closure of farmers due to the corona infection. By June 29, more than 50 percent of the planting had been completed. Dhan Singh Saud of Tikapur-8 informed that the farmers have completed the field work ahead of time after the monsoon became active from the last week of May. He said that the farmers had to wait for water this year, adding that the delay in planting paddy was due to non-availability of rain water and timely arrival of irrigation water.

"I had planted more than 15 bigahas at this time last year. Not a single bigaha has been planted this year. The current rains have become nectar for the farmers. At least after the soil gets wet, boring water has created an environment for planting." he said. Farmer Saund has prepared to plant paddy in 28 bigha areas. Sauds, who are engaged in commercial farming by renting land, plant paddy in an area of more than 10 bigahas for seed growth.

Farmers had a lot of problems even to save seeds due to lack of rain. Farmer Amar Katharia says that even though some farmers have planted with boring water, the planted paddy has dried up due to lack of irrigation. He had planted paddy in two bigahas through boring. Stating that the planted paddy has reached the stage of drying up due to lack of adequate irrigation, Katharia said that relief was provided after the onset of rains.

"There is no water in the irrigation canal. Irrigation with boring water is not possible. There is no rain. Farmers were in a state of panic but now beginning to feel some relief." he said. The planting of paddy has been delayed by some farmers in the hope that the government will provide chemical fertilizer. Farmer Mahesh Chaudhary says that the monsoon has overtaken the farmers waiting for chemical fertilizer as there is no production without fertilizer.

"The government could not provide us manure. Some time was spent waiting on the manure and some time due to lack of irrigation. At present, farmers buy manure from the Indian market for their own use. And it started to rain. Now the farmers are visible in the fields." he said.
