Two people protesting against Kamala Devkota's death shot by the police in Lamki
Dhangadhi: Two protesters have been injured in a police firing in Lamki of Kailali district.
The injured have been identified as Krishna Pyakurel, 30, and Deepak Sanjyal, 18. Krishna was shot on his abdomen while Deepak was shot on his leg, both of them are undergoing treatment at Kohalpur Hospital. Deepak's condition is normal but Krishna is in a critical condition, said his relative Ram Bahadur Chalaune.
‘The bullet could not be removed from his abdomen in Kohalpur. They might take him to Kathmandu in a helicopter for further treatment as he is bleeding continuously,” he said.
According to Ram Bahadur Chalaune, the protesters were shot indiscriminately after the in-charge of the Area Police Office gave an order. Meanwhile, Inspector at the District Police Office, Kailali, Hikmat Thapa said that the shot was fired in the air to disperse the crowd as they were surrounding the Area Police Office. The protest was organised in regard to a young woman's death in a bus accident.
The deceased has been identified as Kamala Devkota, 22, of Lamkichuha Municipality-1. The bus (Na 6 8833) was heading towards Tikapur at Lamki Chowk under East-West Highway on Tuesday morning when the accident took place.
Locals have been protesting against the issue by blocking the highway and burning tires. Police have arrested Pushpa Kadel, 31, of Bardogoria Rural Municipality-1 for allegedly hitting the bus.
