A 49-year-old deceased tests positive for Coronavirus 8 days after cremation

A 49-year-old man who had gone to work in Ward No. 3 of Mohanyal Municipality in Kailali fell unconscious on July 13. He died in Mohanyal village while being brought to the Terai for treatment. After his demise he was brought to Bardagoria for cremation as he was a resident of Bardagoria Rural Municipality Ward No. 5. Before the cremation on August 20, the health branch of Bardagoria village collected his swab sample.

According to Krishna Dev Joshi, health officer of the rural municipality, swabs were collected and sent to Dhangadhi for testing. However, the laboratory of Seti Provincial Hospital in Dhangadhi sent more than 1,800 swabs to Dadeldhura for testing on Saturday as they were unable to test so many samples quickly. The body of a 49-year-old man was also sent to Dadeldhura. The report of the deceased has come positive in the test conducted in Dadeldhura on Tuesday.

"The deceased’s corona reports came back positive nine days after his death and eight days after the cremation," said Joshi, an official at the village health branch.

According to him, about 100 people have come in contact with the deceased and 40 people who came in contact with the deceased are preparing to get tested.
