Kailali: In Kailali, the Mohana River has been changing its old course by cutting in some places in the border area. Due to the annual erosion in some places due to drought, there is a problem of missing, breaking and filling the border posts.

Sudarshan Singh Dhami, who is in charge of the Nepal-India Border Survey Team No. 4 in the fiscal year 2076/77 BS, says that there is a problem of breaking, filling or disappearing of the border pillars when the Mohana River changes its course. "There is a problem in protecting the border post at the place where the river has changed its course," said Dhami. The main boundary pillars No. 742 and the auxiliary boundary pillars No. 741/1 and 742/2 have been lost due to the river changing its old course.

It is said that some lands of India fell towards Nepal when the river changed its course in Phulbari area. Nepalis are using the disputed land as a community forest. Dhami said, "Boundary dispute has not been resolved in the border area of Phulbari and there is no dispute in other border areas of the district."

Superintendent of Police Kamal Tiusina of the Armed Police Force No. 34 said that the border pillar No. 701/1 near the Karnali River on the southeastern border was buried due to the flow of the river. There are villages of Nepal in some places and villages of India in some places across the river. The Dhansimpur, Narayanpur, Joshipur, Janakinagar, Bhajani and Lalbozhi areas of Kailali have been affected by the problem of inundation and erosion due to the increase in water flow in Karnali.

Of the total 282 border posts in the border area, 53 are main border posts and 229 are auxiliary border posts. Thirteen of the main border posts are already missing. Of the auxiliary border posts, 54 are missing.
