Mahendranagar: All three security agencies in Kanchanpur have been placed on high alert following forecasts of heavy rainfall.

Security mechanisms across all local levels in Kanchanpur have been mobilized, with rescue equipment kept ready to respond to potential inundation.

Superintendent of Armed Police (SP) Prem Prakash Sigdel, Chief of Armed Police Force (APF) Battalion No. 35 (Shaileshwari), stated that the APF has positioned trained personnel and rescue equipment at five locations for disaster response.

“Given the potential for floods and inundation in Kanchanpur, we are making preparations accordingly; rubber boats and trained APF teams are on standby,” said SP Sigdel. “A team trained in disaster management is ready to respond to any potential flooding situations.”

The APF has stated that teams are kept ready at the battalion headquarters for deployment to Punarbas Municipality, Belauri, Devisthan in Dodhara Chandani, Majhgaun in Bhimdatta Municipality, and Shuklaphanta. Instructions have also been issued to Border Outposts (BOPs) located along riverbanks to remain vigilant.

Additionally, a “Command Post” has been established at the District Administration Office, Kanchanpur, to coordinate immediate team deployment in the event of floods or inundation and to prevent loss of life and property. The post is also monitoring the situation across the district.

Similarly, battalions and companies under the No. 25 Brigade of the Nepali Army are also on standby for disaster response. The Army has stated that, alongside the Brigade, the Ransingh Dal Battalion and Barahdal Company have assigned responsibilities to trained teams for areas prone to potential inundation and flooding.

No. 25 Brigade Headquarters reported that teams have been kept on standby, equipped with boats, vehicles, and rescue gear, to cover all nine local municipalities in the area.

Following forecasts of heavy rainfall, all local municipalities here have raised awareness and made necessary preparations. A response plan prioritizing rescue, relief, and public safety during disasters has been initiated following a meeting of the District Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee held at the District Administration Office.

The administration has issued a notice urging high vigilance. The public is advised to avoid traveling during heavy rain and to exercise special caution near riverbanks and flood-prone areas along the Mahakali, Jogbudha, Macheli, and Doda rivers.

Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tek Bahadur Rawat, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, stated that police teams are on standby and fully prepared for potential disasters.

“The police are raising awareness in riverbank areas through public announcements and are ready for disaster response, rescue, and relief operations through local coordination and collaboration,” he said. “So far, there has been no rainfall causing damage.”
