Far-Western Chief Minister Khagraj Bhatta Secures Vote of Confidence

Dhangadhi: Far-Western Chief Minister Khagraj Bhatta has secured a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly.

Of the 46 provincial lawmakers present at Wednesday’s provincial assembly meeting, 31 voted in favor of Chief Minister Bhatta, while 15 voted against him.

Of the lawmakers, 20 members of the NCP and 11 members of the UML, which are leading the provincial government, voted in favor of Bhatta. Meanwhile, 14 Congress members and one RPP member voted against him. Three Congress members were absent from the meeting.

Bhatta, the leader of the NCP parliamentary party, was appointed the fifth Chief Minister of Far-Western Province on Friday.

Kamal Bahadur Shah of the Congress, who was in the minority after the UML and NCP reached an agreement to share power, resigned as Chief Minister on Thursday.
