Kailali collects over Rs 11 lakhs in traffic enforcement revenue in Shrawan

Dhangadhi: Kailali collected more than Rs 11 lakhs  in revenue by taking action against 1,387 vehicles for violating traffic rules during Shrawan of the current fiscal year 2083/084.

Resham Prasad Acharya, Chief (Police Inspector) of the District Traffic Police Office, Dhangadhi, informed that the revenue was collected through traffic enforcement actions during the month.

According to Acharya, Rs 14.775 million was collected in revenue in the last fiscal year 2082/083 by taking action against 18,100 vehicles in Kailali.

Similarly, Rs 13.39 lakhs was collected in the last fiscal year from action against 2,454 drivers driving under the influence of alcohol. In the current fiscal year, around Rs 200,000 has been collected from action against 365 drivers driving under the influence of alcohol.

Traffic police statistics show that road accidents remain a concern in Kailali. In the last fiscal year, 601 road accidents occurred in the district, killing 82 people and seriously injuring 584 others. During Shrawan of the current fiscal year alone, 118 road accidents were recorded, resulting in seven deaths and 47 serious injuries.

The Traffic Police Office has also continued public awareness programs on road safety and traffic rules. In the last fiscal year, 729 awareness programs were conducted, reaching 41,260 people. Similarly, lane and traffic rule classes were conducted 48 times, with 1,450 participants.

Acharya said 68 public awareness programs were conducted during Shrawan of the current fiscal year, involving 3,407 participants. During the same period, 388 participants attended lane and traffic rule classes.

Traffic police also took action against 75 trucks carrying loads beyond their capacity and collected Rs 295,000 in revenue. Similarly, Rs 129,000 was collected from action against 20 vehicles with red number plates.

Police Inspector Acharya said cases have been registered against 16 people on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Similarly, 17 motorcycles were seized and sent to the Transport Management Office, Dhangadhi, for action due to increased noise pollution caused by modified silencers.

According to the police, regular checks, enforcement actions and public awareness programs have been continued to reduce road accidents and control traffic rule violations.
