National Security Council calls for stronger coordination among security agencies and stakeholders

Kathmandu: The 43rd meeting of the National Security Council has decided to enhance coordination among all security agencies and stakeholders to maintain social harmony and national unity, following a review of the country’s overall security situation.

The meeting, held today at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar under the chairmanship of Prime Minister and National Security Council Chairman Balendra Shah, reviewed the national security situation as well as the incident that occurred in Sunsari on July 20, according to Council Member Secretary and Ministry of Defense Secretary Kedarnath Sharma.

He stated that the meeting decided to strengthen coordination among security agencies and relevant stakeholders to prevent similar incidents in the future and to effectively uphold social harmony and national unity.

The meeting also discussed the need to improve coordination among concerned agencies to ensure timely and effective search, rescue and relief operations during disaster situations.

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, who attended the meeting, said the briefing highlighted that the situation in Sunsari is gradually returning to normal through the joint efforts of political parties, local stakeholders and security agencies. He added that the meeting emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and coordination at the local level to ensure long-term stability.

“The meeting also discussed intensifying dialogue to prevent recurrence of such incidents, enhancing the capacity of security agencies for effective crisis and crowd management, and further strengthening the management of necessary resources and training,” he said.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Finance, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Home Affairs, the Chief Secretary to the Government of Nepal, and the Chief of Army Staff, among others.
