Youth attempts self-immolation in Rautahat, referred to Kathmandu for treatment

Rautahat: A 28-year-old youth has attempted self-immolation by pouring petrol on himself in Garuda Municipality of Rautahat.

According to the District Police Office, Rautahat, Gautam Kumar Sahni, son of Devendra Sahni of Garuda Municipality-9, Gamhariya, set himself on fire after pouring petrol on himself at around 1 am on Tuesday.

Following the incident, Sahni was immediately taken to a hospital in Garuda for treatment. Deputy Superintendent of Police Basanta Gautam, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Rautahat, said that Sahni sustained burns from his neck to the lower part of his body and his condition is currently moderate.

DSP Gautam said that Sahni has been referred to Kirtipur Burn Hospital in Kathmandu for further treatment.

The reason behind the incident has not been disclosed. Police said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
