Two sweet shops sealed in Kanchanpur after food safety monitoring

Mahendranagar: Following consumer complaints about the increasing use of inedible items in food dishes in Kanchanpur district, the concerned bodies have jointly monitored hotels, sweet shops, fast food and industries.

A joint team of the Food Technology and Quality Control Office Dhangadhi, District Administration Office Kanchanpur and District Police Office Kanchanpur conducted monitoring at various places in the district, informed Madan Koirala, Chief District Officer of the District Administration Office Kanchanpur. He said that regular monitoring has been tightened keeping in mind the health of consumers.

According to Hareram Pradhan, Chief of the Food Technology and Quality Control Office Dhangadhi, Kailali, monitoring was conducted at 15 shops and industries. During the monitoring, extreme negligence was observed in terms of food hygiene at Shivani Sweet House run by Jay Prakash Gupta located at Gali No. 1 in Mahendranagar and the shop itself was sealed after worms were found in the sweets.

Similarly, Pradhan said that about 60 kg of food was destroyed after excessive use of food coloring was found in the food at Bhatta Nasta Shop in Mahendranagar.

During the monitoring, poor hygiene and garbage were found at Guddu Sweet House located at Gali No. 1 in Mahendranagar and instructions have been given to improve it within a month.

The Food Technology and Quality Control Office has also warned that stricter action will be taken against businessmen who play with the health of consumers in the coming days.
