Kathmandu: The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced a ban on Nepal on Thursday. This is the first time in the history of Nepali football that FIFA has imposed a ban on Nepal, pushing the country’s football sector into uncertainty and confusion.

According to information released on FIFA’s official website, Nepal has been banned as per the decision of the Bureau of the Council. FIFA has cited third-party interference as the main reason for the ban.

Earlier, the National Sports Council (NSC) had suspended the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) for three months. However, the suspension has since been lifted. The elections were postponed after the NSC did not recognize the proposed ANFA elections. In addition, the term of the current working committee led by Pankaj Nembang has also ended.
