Dhangadhi: Flower traders and farmers of Kailali have demanded stricter restrictions on the import of plastic flowers from India through the customs checkpoint.

Meeting the head of the Kailali Customs Office on Wednesday, they urged authorities to take effective steps to control the illegal import of plastic flowers that have been banned by the government.

Shankar Singh Bista, president of the Kailali Florists Association, said that they have begun producing and trading natural flowers after the government banned plastic flowers. However, he said the domestic flower business is now in crisis after Indian plastic flowers have recently become widely available in the market.

He said that both plastic and natural flowers are being imported through the customs checkpoint, especially during the morning and evening hours, and urged the Customs Office to strictly monitor and control the import of banned materials.
