House of Representatives passes two election-related amendment bills unanimously

Kathmandu: Two election-related bills were unanimously passed during today’s बैठक of the House of Representatives.

During the session, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam presented the proposal for the passage of the bills on behalf of Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Balendra Shah. The bills were introduced to replace ordinances related to amendments in election laws brought by the previous government for the House of Representatives elections held on Falgun 21.

The bills passed include the ‘Election of Members of the House of Representatives (First Amendment) Bill, 2083’ and the ‘Voters’ Roll (First Amendment) Bill, 2083’.

Participating in the clause-wise discussion on the ‘Election of Members of the House of Representatives (First Amendment) Bill, 2083’, Member of Parliament Prem Bahadur Bayak called for greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in proportional representation elections. In response, Minister Gautam stated that the law ensures inclusion based on population percentages and noted that, as the law was introduced in the context of elections that have already been held, such concerns will be considered for future elections.

No member registered to participate in the clause-wise discussion on the ‘Voters’ Roll (First Amendment) Bill, 2083’.

The next meeting of the House of Representatives is scheduled for Wednesday, 13 Jestha, at 11:00 am.
