Kanchanpur police annual report: Illegal goods worth over Rs 5 crore seized

Kanchanpur: The District Police Office, Kanchanpur, has released its annual progress report for the fiscal year 2082/083, stating that notable success has been achieved in controlling gambling, preventing customs fraud, curbing forest crimes, and stopping illegal mining of river-based materials. According to details made public through a press meet, a comprehensive campaign was conducted against various illegal activities throughout the year.

According to police, 22 cases were registered under a gambling control campaign carried out in different parts of the district. During the operation, 172 individuals were arrested and Rs 941,473 in cash was seized. The report states that the highest number of cases were registered under the District Police Office in joint operations conducted with Area Police Offices in Jhalari, Beldandi, and Dodhara.

Police have also stated that strict action was taken against illegal import and export of goods by evading customs. According to the report, illegal goods worth Rs 54 million, 67,797 were seized during the fiscal year. In this process, 14 individuals and 31 vehicles were taken into custody and sent to the customs office for further action.

The report further mentions that illegally transported livestock, fish, and homemade liquor were seized and destroyed. Police said 977 chickens and chicks were confiscated and destroyed. Similarly, 40 goats and she-goats, 20 horses, and 16 buffaloes and cattle were seized. In addition, 910 kg of illegally imported fish were destroyed and 2,457 liters of homemade liquor were confiscated.

In efforts to control forest-related crimes, 4 individuals and 3 vehicles involved in illegal timber smuggling were taken into custody. During the operation, 427 cubic feet of timber were seized and a fine of Rs 587,912 was collected, according to the report.

Similarly, in actions against illegal mining and transportation of river-based materials, police seized a total of 28 vehicles, including 17 tractors, 1 tipper, and 1 JCV. A total of 32 individuals were arrested, and Rs. 1.5 million 5,920 was collected as revenue from the operation.

Police said 22 fairs and festivals in the district were held peacefully during the year. It is also mentioned that 680 awareness programs were conducted under the community-police partnership initiative, strengthening cooperation with citizens.

The report further states that police remained active in civic services during the period, providing 512 citizenship recommendations, 903 conduct-related recommendations, and 57 recommendations related to missing documents.

The District Police Office, Kanchanpur, stated that campaigns to strengthen cooperation with citizens for crime control, build a safer society, and bring individuals involved in illegal activities to justice will continue.
