Food company begins wheat procurement in Kailali at above support price

Dhangadhi: The Food Management and Trade Company Limited Provincial Office in Dhangadhi has commenced wheat procurement in Kailali.

The company began purchasing wheat from farmers and agricultural cooperatives at two locations in the district starting Tuesday. According to Office Chief Deepak Thapa, procurement is being carried out from the Mohanpur and Tikapur godowns at a rate higher than the minimum support price set by the government. He stated that while the government has fixed the minimum support price at Rs 3,945 per quintal, the company is purchasing wheat at Rs 4,250 per quintal as an incentive for farmers.

He further informed that the company has set a procurement quota of 10,000 quintals in the district. Under the plan, a maximum of 70 quintals will be purchased per farmer, while up to 500 quintals will be procured from each agricultural cooperative.

Thapa added that wheat procurement could be expanded to other locations in the district if local levels make godown facilities available.
