Kanchanpur: A total of 70,277 children in Kanchanpur have been administered vitamin ‘A’ and deworming medicine under a two-day campaign conducted on April 6 and 7.

During the campaign, 37,382 children received vitamin ‘A’, while 32,895 children were provided with deworming medicine.

According to Janak Bahadur Kunwar, Cold Chain Officer at the Health Office, Kanchanpur, 817 female health volunteers and health workers were mobilized across all nine municipalities of the district to ensure the campaign’s success.

He stated that arrangements have been made to provide vitamin ‘A’ and deworming medicine to children who missed the two-day campaign through nearby health institutions by next Friday. He added that special precautions have been taken to ensure that no child is left behind.

Under the campaign, vitamin ‘A’ was distributed to children aged 6 to 59 months, deworming medicine to children aged 1 to 5 years, and ‘Balvita’ to children aged 6 to 23 months. Arm measurements were also conducted to assess the nutritional status of the children.

The government has been running the vitamin ‘A’ program continuously since 1993 and the deworming program since 2001. Conducted annually in the months of Baishakh and Kartik, the campaign has played an important role in improving children’s immunity, preventing night blindness, and reducing malnutrition.
