Achham: With the objective of improving the educational quality of community schools, Mellekh Rural Municipality of Achham has decided to make it mandatory for children of public office holders to be enrolled in government schools.

Aiming to strengthen public trust in the government education system and enhance its quality, the rural municipality has decided that public representatives, employees, and teachers must enroll their children in community schools. The decision was taken in the first meeting of the 18th session of the village assembly held on Monday and will be implemented from the upcoming academic session 2083.

As per the decision, public representatives, government employees, teachers, and other officials from all eight wards of Mellekh Rural Municipality will be required to enroll their children in community schools.

A notice issued by Acting Chief Administrative Officer Khadka Bahadur Dhami states that action will be taken in accordance with the decision if the provision is not followed.

Rural Municipality Chairperson Jwala Singh Saund said the decision was taken to strengthen community schools and direct the attention of responsible stakeholders towards public education.

He said, “We have moved forward to improve school education. Necessary action will be taken against those who do not comply with the decision of the rural municipality, including the process of finding alternatives.”

It is believed that when individuals receiving government services send their children to community schools, both teachers and management will become more accountable, leading to improvements in educational quality.

The rural municipality has issued directives to the education, youth and sports departments, all ward offices, and schools for the implementation of the decision, and has also urged all stakeholders to support the education reform campaign.

Previously, Turmakhand Rural Municipality in Achham had also implemented a similar policy. While it had a positive impact in the initial phase, its implementation has reportedly weakened in recent years.
