Saraswati Lama and Rubi Kumari Thakur file candidacies for deputy speaker

Kathmandu: Saraswati Lama of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Rubi Kumari Thakur of the Shram Sanskriti Party have officially registered their candidacies for the post of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Lama’s proposer is Gyan Bahadur Shahi, with Tahir Ali Bhat, Khusbu Oli, and Bharat Giri as his supporters. Thakur’s proposer is Aren Rai, supported by Ashok Kumar Chaudhary and Ambikadevi Sangraula.

The Secretariat’s schedule stated that the registration of proposal notices, under Sub-rule (2) of Rule 8 of the House of Representatives Rules, 2079 BS, for the election of a Deputy Speaker, was open from 11 am to 2:00 pm today. The list of registered candidates in order of registration is set to be published at 2:30 pm. The proposer will formally propose the candidacy, and the seconder will support it. The notice will be discussed and presented for a decision during the House meeting scheduled for Chaitra 10 at 4 pm.

As per the Constitution, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House must represent different political parties and different genders. Dol Prasad Aryal was elected unopposed as Speaker of the House from the National Independent Party during the first session of the House of Representatives held after the elections on Falgun 21.
