Dol Prasad Aryal elected unopposed as tenth speaker of the House of Representatives

Kathmandu: Dol Prasad Aryal, Vice Chairman of the National Independent Party, has been elected unopposed as the tenth Speaker of the House of Representatives. Born on Bhadra 6, 2031 BS in Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality, Dhading, Aryal was elected from Kathmandu Constituency No. 9 in the House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21 last year.

Aryal, who has pursued an alternative political path through continuous struggle, has previously served as Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security. As the newly elected Speaker, he brings extensive experience, having studied, researched, worked, and operated a business in various countries including Japan. Over the past 25 years, he has been active in the tourism, education, and financial sectors, driven by his belief in contributing to his homeland.

Simultaneously balancing business and politics, Aryal played a pivotal role in establishing the National Independent Party in 2079 BS and is its founding Vice Chairman. During his previous ministerial tenure, he made significant contributions toward protecting workers' rights, reforming foreign employment procedures, and advancing social security.

In today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, senior member Arjun Narsingh KC announced Aryal’s unopposed election as Speaker. Aryal is scheduled to take the oath of office and secrecy from President Ram Chandra Poudel today.

No other party nominated a candidate for the Speaker’s post, enabling Aryal’s unopposed election. The National Independent Party holds 182 MPs in the 275-member House of Representatives. As Speaker, Aryal faces the challenge of legislating, monitoring government activities, and managing parliamentary proceedings in a balanced manner to address political polarization and party differences.
