Far west MPs demand Rs 2.6 arbas budget to upgrade Geta university

Dhangadhi: Members of Parliament from Sudurpaschim Province have jointly called for the full operation of Shaheed Dashrath Chand Health Sciences University in Geta, Kailali.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Tuesday, MPs from the region urged the government to take necessary steps to upgrade the university. According to Khemraj Koirala, MP from Kailali Constituency No. 4, approximately Rs 2.6 arbas is required to fully operate the institution, and all MPs have agreed to ensure the allocation.

He stated that Prime Minister Shah has expressed readiness to extend necessary support by prioritizing the initiative. Prior to the discussion, the Prime Minister had requested MPs to present issues that could be addressed immediately, considering the size of the upcoming fiscal year’s budget.

In response, MPs raised concerns from their respective constituencies. According to Koirala, issues discussed included the resumption of key projects halted by cabinet decisions, improvement of living standards for citizens residing in camp areas, construction of the Dhangadhi–Dadeldhura fast track, and expansion of road and transport networks.

He noted that the unity demonstrated by MPs from the Far West on common issues has been seen as a positive sign for the region’s development and prosperity.
