Supreme court to hear KP Sharma Oli’s habeas corpus petition on monday
Kathmandu: A habeas corpus petition has been filed at the Supreme Court seeking the release of CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The petition was filed on behalf of his wife, Radhika Shakya, alleging that his arrest and detention were unlawful.
The hearing on the petition, registered today, is scheduled to take place on Monday.
Former Prime Minister Oli and former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Lekhak were arrested on Saturday, Chaitra 14, on charges of suppressing the Genji movement.
The CPN-UML has announced plans to protest both politically and legally, claiming that the arrests of Oli and Lekhak are illegal and biased. Oli has been kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital since his arrest.
