Weekly market to launch in Dadeldhura to promote local agricultural products
Dadeldhura: Preparations are underway to launch a weekly market in the district headquarters from Saturday, aiming to facilitate the sale of locally produced vegetables and fruits.
The initiative is intended to support the marketing of local products. A 19-member committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Tanka Bahadur Chhetri, Ward Chairman of Amargadhi-5, to oversee the operation. According to the committee, the market will be held every Saturday starting from Chaitra 14.
Farmers have welcomed the move. Prasad Dutta Awasthi of Ganyapadhura said the market will provide a valuable platform for showcasing and selling local produce. “It is a good opportunity for farmers,” he said, adding that fresh vegetables can be supplied directly to consumers through the market.
Currently, farmers often have to sell their produce at low prices through traders. Tilak Raj Bhatta of Bhatkanda noted that the lack of a proper marketplace has caused significant challenges. “Farmers are forced to approach multiple traders to sell vegetables, and it is difficult to receive a price that reflects their labor,” he said, expressing hope for fair pricing once the market begins.
Ward Chairman Chhetri said that middlemen currently purchase produce directly from farms and sell it to consumers at higher prices. He added that arrangements will be made to enable farmers to bring their goods to the market and sell them directly.
