Kathmandu: The faction led by Nepali Congress outgoing president Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has decided to call a separate central working committee meeting.

The decision was made during a meeting held in Dhumbarahi on Sunday, attended by then acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka, office bearers elected from the 14th general convention, and members of the performance committee. Leader Min Bishwakarma said the meeting resolved to convene a central working committee meeting and conduct a review of the recent election.

According to him, the date for the meeting will be finalized through mutual understanding, and the party’s future course of action will also be discussed.

The move by the Deuba–Koirala faction is expected to further intensify internal disputes within the Nepali Congress. Earlier, a new committee led by Gagan Thapa was elected through a special general convention. The Deuba and Koirala factions have rejected this committee and filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court, which is currently under consideration.

The Election Commission has already granted legitimacy to the Thapa-led leadership. The Nepali Congress, which contested the elections under Thapa’s leadership, has faced defeat. While the Thapa-led Central Working Committee is currently engaged in reviewing the election, the opposing faction has decided to hold a separate meeting.
