Kathmandu: Twenty-one Nepalis who had traveled to Cambodia lured by promises of good jobs and high earnings have been rescued. They were forced to work illegally in online scamming centers and casinos operating unlawfully and were repatriated on Friday.

Their rescue was made possible through the initiative of the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok, the support of the Cambodian government, and the facilitation of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Cambodia.

According to the embassy, the victims had been lured by brokers and were forced to remain in hiding even after their visas expired. The embassy also stated that efforts are ongoing to locate and repatriate other Nepalis stranded in Cambodia under similar circumstances.
