Over 400 dead and 1,600 injured in disasters across Nepal since Baisakh

Kathmandu: Nepal has witnessed a total of 5,966 disaster incidents across the country since last Baisakh, resulting in 424 deaths and 1,643 injuries, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

The Authority reported that 38 people remain missing and 11,535 families have been affected by various disasters during this period. Fire incidents accounted for the highest number of disasters, with 2,692 fires causing 75 deaths, 442 injuries, and affecting 2,996 families.

Landslides were also significant, with 577 incidents resulting in 71 deaths, five missing persons, and 80 injuries. Other reported incidents include 316 floods, 427 instances of heavy rainfall, 352 lightning strikes, and 580 snakebites.

Additionally, there have been 186 forest fires, 290 windstorms, 422 animal attacks, and 105 drownings. Nepal has also experienced five avalanches, seven earthquakes, two boat capsizings, and one incident each of hailstorm, cold wave, epidemic, and air crash.

The NDRRMA highlighted a recent rise in fire incidents and emphasized that even simple precautions can help reduce such disasters.
