Dhangadhi: Godavari Municipality will organize the municipal-level Tharu Magh Festival in Majgaun, Ward No. 8, Kailali, from Magh 12 to 14. The festival, marking the Tharu community’s new year and their largest annual celebration, aims to preserve and promote Tharu art, culture, traditional attire, local cuisine, and agricultural practices.

The event will be held at the Majgaun Tharu Museum and is jointly organized by Barghar Bhalmansa Godavari Nagar Samiti, Majgaun Tharu Community Homestay, and New Khutia Charpate Youth Club. The program will feature cultural tableaus, performances by Tharu artists, and the honoring of civil servants from the Tharu community residing permanently in Godavari Municipality.

Janaklal Chaudhary, coordinator of the main organizing committee, stated that the festival has been held for the past 16 years, contributing to the preservation of folk culture and raising public awareness among locals.

Madhav Tharu, central councilor of the Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha, added that the festival has promoted cultural awareness throughout Godavari, with traditional dances such as Sakhiya and Maghauta now performed in every Tharu village in the municipal area.

Acting ward chairman Hariram Chaudhary highlighted that the Magh Festival has also fostered unity, social cohesion, and community awareness in the region.
