Madhes Chief Minister to seek vote of confidence; Speaker election scheduled for Poush 22
Dhanusha: Madhes Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav is set to seek a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly on Friday. Chief Minister Yadav has sent a letter to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat requesting arrangements for taking a vote of confidence in the Madhes Provincial Assembly. According to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the request was made in accordance with Article 168 of the Constitution, which requires a vote of confidence to be taken within 30 days of the Chief Minister’s appointment. Yadav was appointed Chief Minister on November 19 as the leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party, with the support of 77 Provincial Assembly members from seven parties. Given the current composition of the Provincial Assembly, it is expected that Chief Minister Yadav will secure the vote of confidence with ease. Following the vote, the tenure of the Madhes Provincial Government is expected to become more stable, enabling the government to focus more actively on budget implementation, development initiatives and good governance. Speaker election on Poush 22 Provincial Assembly Secretary Basu Prasad Koirala has been instructed to publish the notice regarding the Speaker election for Poush 22. During the Provincial Assembly meeting held on Wednesday, Deputy Speaker Ishar also read out letters received from the President’s Office, the Office of the Provincial Chief and the Supreme Court on various matters. It has been reported that the next meeting of the Provincial Assembly will be held on Poush 22 at 4 pm on Friday.
Meanwhile, the election for the Speaker of the Madhes Provincial Assembly has been scheduled for Poush 22. Deputy Speaker Babita Raut Ishar informed the Provincial Assembly meeting that the date for the Speaker election has been fixed. She stated that the election process is being conducted in accordance with Rule 7 of the Provincial Assembly Rules of Procedure, 2075 BS, as the post of Speaker is currently vacant.
