Leopard rescued safely after being caught in snare in Baitadi
Baitadi: A leopard that had been trapped in a snare in Baitadi district has been rescued safely. The animal was caught in a snare set by locals in the Jimradi area of Sigas Rural Municipality-2, Dhauladi, on Sunday night.
According to Naresh Karna, Information Officer at the Division Forest Office, the leopard was rescued at around 11 am on Tuesday by a technical team from Shuklaphanta National Park. The leopard’s right leg was found caught in the snare.
During the rescue operation, the leopard was darted and rendered unconscious. A team including a veterinarian treated the injured animal, after which preparations were made to release it later today in the Sigas Protected Forest Area, said Information Officer Karna.
He added that the rescue operation was delayed as a technical team had to arrive from Shuklaphanta National Park.
Following the incident, the Division Forest Office has written to the concerned community forest after the leopard was found trapped in a snare set within the community forest area. Information Officer Karna said that the letter seeks an investigation into who set the snare in the community forest area and for what purpose.
