Brother of Former Chief Minister arrested in Kailali for alleged involvement in youth's murder

Dhangadhi: Police have arrested a man in Kailali on charges of murdering a young man. The arrested individual has been identified as 51-year-old Mahabir Chaudhary of Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City-6, Dang.

According to Police Inspector Kailash Singh Bista of the District Police Office, Kailali, Chaudhary was apprehended by a joint team of Bardiya and Kailali police from Ward No. 2 of Kailari Rural Municipality in Madra. Inspector Bista said Chaudhary was found sleeping in an empty house at the time of his arrest.

“The arrested Chaudhary is the main accused in the shooting incident at Hamar Tharu Restaurant in Rajapur Municipality-4, Bardiya,” Inspector Bista said. “He was arrested at 3 pm on Wednesday while sleeping in an empty house.”

Last Sunday, 28-year-old Niraj Chaudhary of Tulsipur-6, Dang, was killed in a shooting at the restaurant.

Police also recovered a pistol from Chaudhary, who had fled Bardiya after the incident. Mahabir is the brother of former Lumbini Chief Minister and Nepali Congress leader Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary.
