Dhangadhi: A total of 717 people received eye care services during a free eye treatment camp organized by Nepal Netrajyoti Sangh, Geta Eye Hospital, and Belauri Municipality on 2082 Kartik 8 and 9, with support from the JCO Foundation, at Mahakali Secondary School, Belauri.

During the camp, 123 patients underwent free cataract surgery, successfully restoring their vision, while 594 individuals received free medicines. The camp proved particularly beneficial for those unable to access hospital services due to financial constraints, with many having lived with impaired vision for a long time.

The services were provided by a 14-member technical team led by Dr. Suresh Raj Pant, Chief Medical Director of Geta Eye Hospital, and Senior Eye Officer Ramesh Chandra Bhatta. Office bearers of Nepal Netrajyoti Sangh Kailali, teachers of Mahakali Secondary School, and volunteer students actively supported the camp’s operations.

Geta Eye Hospital has been continuously working to reduce blindness across Sudurpaschim Province. In addition to regular treatment services from its 29 branches across all nine districts, the hospital conducts more than 50 free eye camps annually in collaboration with government and non-government organizations.

As a result of these sustained efforts, the blindness rate in the province has decreased from 1.02 percent in 1981 to 0.21 percent in 2021, making Sudurpaschim Province the region with the lowest blindness rate in the country, according to Geta Eye Hospital.
