Bipin Joshi laid to rest at Mahakali aryaghat with national honors
Dhangadhi: The final rites of Bipin Joshi, who was killed after being held hostage by the Hamas group, were performed today on the banks of the Mahakali River in Kanchanpur. Joshi was laid to rest with national honors at the Bhujela Aryaghat in Mahakali, where the Armed Police Force offered a salute in his memory.
Joshi’s body was brought to Kathmandu from Israel on Monday afternoon. It was then flown to Dhangadhi by a Nepali Army sky truck and transported by road to his home in Bhimdatta Municipality-3, Bhansi, Kanchanpur. Officials, including the Israeli ambassador to Nepal, visited his residence to hand over the body to his family.
After the body arrived home on Monday night, the funeral procession was taken to the Mahakali River on Tuesday morning for the final rites.
Bipin Joshi had gone to Israel two years ago under the ‘Learning and Earning’ program of Sudurpaschim University. He was attacked and abducted by Hamas militants on October 7, 2023, just a month after his arrival. In that attack, 10 Nepali students from Sudurpaschim University were killed, while Joshi was taken hostage. His whereabouts remained unknown for nearly two years.
