Dhangadhi: Sudurpaschim Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah on Sunday conducted an on-site inspection of the Godavari Municipality office in Kailali, which was severely damaged by arson and vandalism during the Genji movement on Bhadra 10.

During the visit, Chief Minister Shah pledged to take the initiative in securing necessary budget allocations from both the federal and provincial governments for reconstruction. He stressed that the incident had caused extensive damage and assured that the local government would receive assistance for immediate relief and long-term rebuilding efforts.

“The federal and provincial governments must show urgency in addressing both immediate relief and sustainable reconstruction after assessing the losses caused by the movement,” CM Shah said, adding that the municipality should prioritize overcoming the challenges posed by the destruction and expedite effective reconstruction work.

Godavari Municipality’s Chief Administrative Officer, Dharmaraj Binadi, briefed the Chief Minister that the arson and vandalism had resulted in material damage worth over Rs 95.3 million. He informed that Rs 15 million has been allocated from the municipality’s current budget for reconstruction, while efforts are also underway to collect in-kind materials and cash contributions from local residents and supporting donors.
