Kailali police disbands controversial Ghumuwa plainclothes team

Dhangadhi: Kailali Police has relieved the officers deployed in plainclothes, known as the Ghumuwa team, following controversies surrounding their conduct.

District Police Office Chief Narendra Bahadur Chand confirmed that the team, previously tasked with intelligence gathering, has been disbanded. “The plainclothes team has been removed after receiving multiple complaints. While intelligence collection remains necessary, this team has been withdrawn. We may consider forming a new team in the future,” he said.

The Ghumuwa team had faced controversy during the tenure of former SP Bal Narsingh Rana. Allegations included involvement in extortion and coercive practices under the team’s name. The District Police Office stated that the removal was part of an internal review and reform initiative.
