Eight offices in Darchula damaged during Gen-z protests
Darchula: Eight offices in Darchula district were damaged during the Gen-z protests, according to the District Administration Office. While initial assessments confirm damage to eight offices, complete details are still being compiled.
Chief District Officer Anil Poudel reported that during the protest on Bhadra 24, party offices of three political parties, two ward offices, the district jail, Gokuleshwor Hospital, and the office of Radio Lokdarpan FM were damaged. In the Nepali Congress party office, cash, goods, physical structures, and materials totaling Rs. 65,000 were destroyed.
The office of the Nepal Communist Party (UML) suffered vandalism to computers and other equipment, while the Martyrs’ Foundation in the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center) office incurred damage worth approximately Rs. 99,000, according to Pradya Poudel. The District Jail sustained damages valued at Rs. 51,500, including two CCTV cameras. Details of the damage to Gokuleshwor Hospital have not yet been submitted.
On Bhadra 26, a fire at the Duhu Rural Municipality-3 office destroyed a four-room building and a room in the ward office, damaging all computers, printers, and other materials. The total loss to the ward office is estimated at Rs. 7.26 million.
Additionally, the ward office of Shailyashikhar Municipality-2 was vandalized on Bhadra 28. Although all materials inside were destroyed, the financial value of the damage has not been disclosed.
Protesters also pelted stones at Community Radio Lokdarpan FM in Lekam Rural Municipality-5. The administration has stated that regular services have now resumed at all affected locations following the protests.
