Sudurpaschim provincial government tables Dalit empowerment amendment bill in assembly
Dhangadhi: The Sudurpaschim Provincial Government has tabled a bill to amend the Dalit Empowerment Act, 2078 BS, in the Provincial Assembly.
Minister for Social Development Meghraj Khadka presented the bill during the assembly session on Thursday. Minister Khadka stated that while the act was originally enacted to protect the rights and interests of the Dalit community, establish certain provisions, and form a Dalit Commission, the amendment is necessary to address legal complications.
In the same session, a general discussion was held on a bill proposing amendments to industry and forest-related acts. The discussion was initiated on the proposal of Minister Khadka.
Provincial Assembly members Padam Bahadur Shahi, Shiv Singh Oli, and Chakra Malla participated, noting that the amendments aim to promote the establishment and renewal of industries and improve forest-related systems.
During the session, member Naresh Kumar Shahi raised concerns over the India-China agreement to construct a trade route through Lipulekh in Nepal’s far west, describing it as a violation of Nepal’s sovereignty and geographical integrity.
Additionally, Provincial Assembly member Dammari Mahara highlighted ongoing efforts by Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba to secure the release of Bipin Joshi of Kanchanpur, currently held by Hamas.
Provincial Assembly member Akkal Bahadur Rawal urged the government to streamline the issuance of national identity and citizenship cards, citing the death of an elderly person in Achham on Bhadra 3 while waiting in line to obtain a national ID.
