Five-member committee formed to probe deadly clash at Kailali prison

Kailali: A five-member investigation committee has been formed to look into the violent clash between two groups of inmates at Kailali Prison.

The committee, coordinated by Assistant Chief District Officer Kiran Joshi, was established following a meeting of the District Security Committee held on Saturday morning in response to Friday night’s incident.

Its members include Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Singh of the District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police Janakraj Pant of the Armed Police Force, and Investigation Officer Dipendra Singh of the District Investigation Office. Administrative Officer Shivaraj Joshi of the District Administration Office will serve as the committee’s member secretary.

According to Member Secretary Joshi, who also serves as the office’s information officer, the committee has been tasked with submitting its findings within 10 days.

The clash, which occurred at around 1:45 am on Friday, reportedly stemmed from a dispute over gym equipment, according to prison buyer Ram Prasad Chaudhary.

The incident left Bharat Chaudhary, 40, of Dhangadhi dead, while 47 others sustained injuries to their heads, hands, faces, and other parts of their bodies. The injured are currently receiving treatment at Seti Provincial Hospital.
