Health check-ups conducted for students in three Kanchanpur municipalities

Kanchanpur: Health check-ups for students are being conducted in community schools across three municipalities in Kanchanpur under the Sudurpaschim Province Government’s ‘One School, One Nurse’ program.
The program has been implemented in Belauri Municipality, Laljhadi Rural Municipality, and Beldandi Rural Municipality, according to Om Prakash Joshi, Chief of the District Health Office. “Along with routine health check-ups, we have also been conducting awareness classes,” he said, adding that a staff nurse has been deployed in each municipality to carry out these activities.
The initiative includes first aid training, healthy eating education, and regular eye and dental examinations. Nidhi Dhami, a staff nurse deployed in Laljhadi Rural Municipality, said she provides anemia screening and primary care every six months. “Apart from treatment, students are given awareness sessions on nutrition, menstruation, environmental and personal hygiene, mental health, substance abuse, and sex and sexuality,” she added.

Dhami said the program has had a positive impact, with students now openly sharing their health concerns. “We provide primary care here, and if a serious issue is detected, students are referred for further treatment,” she said.

According to Jaydev Mahara, information officer at the Ministry of Social Development of Sudurpaschim Province, staff nurses have been deployed in 28 schools across the province under the program.
