Baitadi: The Mahakali Customs Office at Jhulaghat, Baitadi, a border point with India, collected Rs 76 lakh in revenue during the fiscal year 2081/82.

However, the office achieved only 71.65 percent of its revenue target, falling short of the Rs 1.3 crore goal set for the year, according to Suresh Bahadur Manni, computer operator at the Mahakali Customs Office. He explained that the target was set high, which contributed to the shortfall in revenue collection.

The revenue was generated from customs duty, customs service fees, value-added tax, and excise duty. In comparison, the fiscal year 2080/81 saw the office surpass its target by collecting Rs 86.84 lakh against a target of Rs 50.89 lakh.

Imports through the Jhulaghat border primarily include household items such as clothes, utensils, sugar, and other goods sourced from the Indian market. Devraj Rana, the office accountant, noted that exports from this border point currently stand at zero. Previously, ghee and agricultural produce were exported through this route.
