Three dead, 16 injured in jeep accident in Bajura

Bajura: Three people lost their lives and 16 others were injured in a jeep accident this morning in Tunigada, Himali Rural Municipality-5, Bajura.

The deceased include 76-year-old Bijaura Rokaya and 75-year-old Banchikala Rokaya, who died on the spot, and 35-year-old Juneli Rokaya, who succumbed during rescue efforts, according to Bajura police. The jeep was carrying 19 passengers at the time of the accident.

Thirteen of the injured are in serious condition, while three have sustained minor injuries. Ambulance services and health workers from the rural municipality have been mobilized for rescue operations, said Dev Bahadur Chaudhary, Police Inspector and Information Officer of the District Police Office.

Chief District Officer Meghnath Padhya stated that Nepal Army helicopters are being deployed to evacuate the critically injured for treatment. The District Administration Office has already requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to assist with helicopter rescue operations.

Police Inspector Chaudhary noted that the accident may have been caused by the jeep being overloaded and the poor condition of the unpaved road. The injured are currently receiving treatment in Tunigada, QD, by local health workers.
