Dhangadhi to host third edition of Kora cycling festival
Dhangadhi: The third Kora Cycling Festival is set to take place in Dhangadhi on Shrawan 3, with the aim of promoting cycling culture and raising funds for social causes.
Organized by the Dhangadhi Cycling Group, the festival will help fund the treatment of Bandana Limbu, who is currently receiving care at Nisargadhi Hospital, according to information shared at a press conference held on Saturday.
The Kathmandu Kora Cycle Yatra, which began with 35 participants in 2011, was introduced in Dhangadhi in 2021 by cycling enthusiast Bharat Bikram Shahi. This year’s route will span 55 kilometers, starting from Karvadhal, passing through Syaule in Godavari, reaching Behdababa Temple, and concluding back at Karvadhal.
Jeevan Khadka, owner of Srinagar Dental and the event's main sponsor, shared the route details and emphasized the festival's growing scale compared to its 35-kilometer route in the inaugural year.
Cyclist Bharat Bikram Shahi stated that the festival aims to promote a green and clean Dhangadhi by encouraging cycling as a mode of transport. He noted that although a cycling lane exists in the city, public engagement remains low. The festival, he added, seeks to boost interest and help foster a strong cycling community. Organizers expect over 50 participants this year.
