Nagarik Unmukti Party withdraws from government at federal and provincial Levels

Dhangadhi: The Nagarik Unmukti Party has officially withdrawn from the federal government, intensifying political uncertainty across multiple levels of government.
Party Chairperson Ranjita Shrestha submitted a letter to Speaker Devraj Ghimire on Sunday, formally revoking the party’s vote of confidence extended to the government. Shrestha confirmed the submission following a meeting with the Speaker.

She also mentioned that she has scheduled a meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli later in the evening upon his return from Humla, where he had gone to inaugurate a bridge.

Prior to this, Minister of State for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Arun Chaudhary had already resigned from the government. Additionally, the Nagarik Unmukti Party has exited the Sudurpaschim provincial government after Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah dismissed Rameshwor Chaudhary, who was serving as Minister of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment.
The party, which had representation in Sudurpaschim, Lumbini, and Madhes provincial governments, has now severed its ties with all tiers of government.

This withdrawal triggers constitutional provisions requiring a vote of confidence. Article 100(2) of the Constitution mandates that if a party represented by the Prime Minister splits or withdraws its support, the Prime Minister must seek a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives within thirty days. A similar provision is outlined in Article 188(2) for provincial governments.
